Geneva -- Amid a potential global shortage in influenza vaccines and the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the UN health agency has advised countries to protect the elderly and health workers first.

Dr. Ann Moen, WHO chief of the Influenza Preparedness and Response, said at a news briefing that the best time for vaccination against influenza is next October, noting that with the approach of winter in the northern hemisphere, obtaining vaccination will be important in order to reduce the burden on the health systems that for months have been facing the spread of the new Corona virus, "Covid 19".

She emphasized that the organization, in its guidelines for the prevention of the influenza virus, focuses on social distancing and staying at home when feeling sick, as well as the constant concern for washing hands and wearing masks in crowded places ... indicating that the organization expects an increase in the need for countries to obtain an influenza virus vaccine this year and what may be It leads to a shortage in some areas, especially since the vaccine is requested before a period ranging between nine months to 12 months, and it is difficult to request the producers when needed.
