The "Schools Security" initiative records 78% drop in traffic reports in school zones

The Dubai Police Schools Security initiative has registered a 33 per cent drop in the criminal reports and 78 per cent in traffic accidents reported during last year across the emirate’s school zones.

For the third consecutive year, the Schools Security initiative continues strengthening the partnership with the educational sector and learn about the sector's needs to provide a safe, happy environment for the young generations- the leaders of the future and protectors of this homeland.

According to Brigadier Saeed Hamad bin Sulaiman, Director of Al Rashidiya Police Station and Head of Schools Security Initiative, the initiative also aims at enhancing the traffic, criminal and health awareness culture among children, and to educate them about their rights and duties toward their communities and nation. It also aims at consolidating the concept of community police for all students at any levels of education, teaching staff, and parents while raising their awareness of the laws and regulations concerning children protection most notably the (Wadeema's Law).

Brigadier bin Sulaiman said: "Since it was launched in 2018, the Initiative has sought to reduce the number of traffic accidents in schools zones, and to ensure the security and safety of pupils, as well as to minimize negative phenomena among students and ensure their happiness."

"Last year, we received 12 criminal reports and 9 traffic reports which were submitted electronically as the emirate opted to distance learning during the pandemic " Brig. Sulaiman added.

81 Programs and Events

Brigadier bin Sulaiman explained that they collaborated with a number of strategic partners to carry out 81 events and programs benefiting more than 132,000 people. He noted that of these; 23 events were organized during the COVID-19 outbreak, raising the awareness of 83,571 students across the emirate's schools on the precautionary measures against the new coronavirus.

180 Meetings

The Head of Schools Security Initiative indicated that about 180 meetings were held under the "Schools Security" initiative within the "Ayna Ma Kontom" (Wherever You Are) drive.

These meetings resulted in identifying the needs of schools and strengthening cooperation in regards to the distance learning system. Also, all difficulties that encounter teachers including behaviours and negative phenomena that could impede the educational process were discussed during the meetings.

Fruitful Partnerships

Brig. bin Sulaiman confirmed that the Initiative has implemented several projects including the provision of traffic requirements (Traffic Signs) project in cooperation with Roads and Transport Authority (RTA). It also participated in the student summer activities, the student council virtual events. "The community partnership is part of the Dubai Police's strategic plan that seeks to embrace the trust between the community and the Force, and eliminating all negative phenomena" Brig. bin Sulaiman reaffirmed.

The Head of School Security Initiative further stressed that Dubai Police is keen on providing a safe environment for the students and their parents. He praised the efforts of institutions and teachers who have spread knowledge within their sincere efforts to improve education and meet the growing knowledge demands of this society.

Brig. Sulaiman explained that the "Schools Security" initiative has successfully engaged many strategic partners in the public and private sectors, including the Ministry of Education, Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA), Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), Civil Defense, Dubai Municipality, Dubai Health Authority (DHA), Emirates Transport, and the Security Industry Regulatory Agency (SIRA).

Active Communication Channels

Brig. Sulaiman invited all parents to contact Dubai Police through the 901 call centre or via "Police Eye" service and to submit their feedback and suggestions on topics related to security, social, cultural, or health aspects, as a matter of social responsibility.

He also thanked everyone who has contributed to the success of the initiative, including work teams, members of the Board of Directors of Police Stations, coordinators of the stations and general departments, and the force’s partners, stressing that it is Dubai Police's keenness to work in a team spirit to improve the safety and security system in the emirate.
