Hospital admissions for patients with coronavirus have spiked suddenly, it has been reported.
New figures are said to show 478 new hospital admissions in England on Sunday, compared to 386 the previous day, a 23 per cent rise.
That's the most coronavirus-related hospital admissions since June 3 -when there were 491.
It has been reported that most of the admissions were in the North West, North East and Yorkshire.
Although daily deaths linked to Covid-19 are rising in hospitals, they are nowhere near the level seen at the height of the first wave of the pandemic in April and May.
The number of UK deaths increased by 76 yesterday- up by 57 on Monday's figure of 19.
The government said that, as of 9am on Tuesday, there had been a further 14,542 lab-confirmed cases of coronavirus in the UK - up by 1,948 on Monday.
This takes the overall number of cases confirmed to 530,113
