Dubai -- Dubai Nationality and Residency Prosecution urged families whom there housemaid absconded to report her within ten days so they will be able to get compensation of Dh10,000 in case that the concerned authorities are notified within a period not exceeding 10 days from the absconding, and after the escaping workers are caught by another person.
The Chief Prosecutor of the Nationality and Residency Prosecution in Dubai, Faisal Ahali, said during a seminar organized by the Community Development Authority virtually to introduce the Nationality and Residency Law, that many families and individuals neglect to inform the concerned authorities about the absconding to their housemaid despite the importance of this procedure from the legal point of view, and the possibility of compensating them , pointing out that families often do not know that they can get Dh 10,000 as compensation if the absconded maid on their sponsorship is caught working for another person.
He explained that the amount of compensation awarded to obligated families who report is deducted from the amount of the fine decided at Dh 50,000, which is imposed on families or persons who employ maids or workers without their sponsorship.
The person who does not report the absconding of the housemaid who is under his sponsorship bears a fine of 50 thousand dirhams, so instead of compensating him for his losses, this large fine is added to it, pointing out that many families fall into this error, whether due to lack of awareness, or Laziness and forgetfulness, or reliance on domestic employment agencies that do not comply with their role for one reason or another.
